Students
Schools choose four students in grades 1-3 who are reluctant or shy readers. Each week, students read with BARK dogs 15-20 minutes for eight to ten weeks.

Reading
Readers are told they are "junior trainers" who are helping the BARK dogs learn to settle so they can visit in libraries - something all students want to do.
End of Session
On the last day, readers receive a new book, a beanie baby dog, and a bookmark with information about their BARK reading buddy.
