Groucho is the original BARK dog and
his mom, Josie, is the founder and director of BARK.
Groucho's Family (Josie and her son,
Christopher) became involved with animals by raising six puppies
over eight years for Guide Dogs for the Blind. They soon began
volunteering at a local animal shelter and transporting shelter dogs to foster
homes and foster dogs to permanent homes from Long Beach to Washington, Oregon,
Arizona, and Nevada.
Josie has helped rescue and shelter evacuated animals during
the San Bernardino Fires in 2005, Lake Tahoe Fires (7/07), Butte
County Fires x 2 (7/08), Hurricane Gustav (9/08) and San Diego Fires
Josie also helps with TNR (trap, neuter, return) of feral cats,
feeding orphaned bottle-baby kittens, and free spay/neuter clinics in Compton,
Watts, and South Central Los Angeles.
